Negativa Push Up
Last week we started taking the weight more into one arm.
This week we’re doubling down on that, and potentially increasing the range of motion for the shoulder and the elbow too.
The grading options/progressions are similar to before but all of them are in the negativa position.

I’ve made the assumption that if you’re reading this you know what Negativa is. It’s common in Capoeira but if you don’t know, it’s the name for the position my feet and legs are in.
Doing the push up on the box will take the weight out, similar to doing the other push up variation against the wall.
This is a random box in my garden, hopefully you can find something that fits for you.
Reducing the size of the block adds some more weight.

Finally it’s full weight, bringing your head more or less to the ground.
I’ve added this view the bring attention to the position of the elbow and shoulder.
This is the only push up in this challenge where I would expect my shoulder to get below my elbow and make so much flexion for the elbow.
In my mind it’s this depth that makes the movement so challenging.

If you’re seeing this challenge for the first time you can have a look at previous weeks.
